2024 Captain’s Course
January 23, February 6 & 23, 2024 6-8 PM at MVRHS
Sail MV is once again offering a United States Coast Guard licensing course in collaboration with Mariners Learning Systems. The course consists of online and in-person classroom instruction, along with support from the instructor.
Instructor: Andy Hammond will be providing in-person instruction during the course. He is a former merchant mariner, USCG license specialist, and current marine consultant, specializing the the maritime training and compliance field.
Course Structure: Participants will receive materials and online instruction via the Mariners Learning System (MLS), along with in-person instruction totaling about 20 additional hours. Plotting tools, including triangles, dividers, and calculators, will need to be obtained or ordered by participants. The course instructor will hold several in-person sessions, and he will also be available for assistance via email and Zoom. All online sessions must be completed before students may take the online exams. Online testing will be available through MLS at any time, so students may schedule the tests whenever they are ready.
Online Course Login: Each registered student will have been sent an email with login instructions for their online course material.
Course Materials: Course materials and plotting tools should be available shortly. Sail MV will email each registered student when these items may be picked up at the Sail MV office, 151 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
Cost: The fee payable to Sail Martha’s Vineyard will be $800; however, students are responsible for the additional fees required to receive a Coast Guard license, which are approximately as follows:
Application fees: Orignal Officer Endorsment $145
T.W.I.C. – Enrollment – TSA: $125.25
Red Cross First Aid/CPR Course – in person required: $120
Drug Screen – USCG/DOT test: $80
Physical Exam – Walk-in or w/physician: $150
Total: $620.25
