Maritime Studies Program

Maritime Studies at MVRHS

Sail MV teaches Maritime Studies courses as a part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

The objective is to provide students with an in-depth overview of seamanship, navigation, and ocean issues. Students gain a solid foundation in navigation, rules, safety, ship construction, and log keeping. Students are also exposed to basic Basic Naval architecture, Boat design, Lines drawings, and Boatbuilding. The course now encompasses three years of study, giving our students a solid understanding of the maritime industry, and skills that will allow them to either transition straight into work or go onto college.

The course runs for 3 years and includes the following subjects:

    • Deck general and deck safety curriculum.
    • Navigation, chart, celestial and digital application.
    • Introduction to naval architecture.
    • Lines drawings and ship design.
    • Boat building.
    • Industry work placements.
