The entrance to Oak Bluffs is short and narrow, with extensive traffic. It can be very rough if there is a sea running, so approach carefully. Be aware that commercial ferries run in and out of both the inner harbor and the docks to the southeast. Once inside you will encounter numerous busy docks to port with a vast fleet of boats crowded on moorings ahead. The harbormaster’s dock with fuel is to port near the harbor entrance.
There is no room to anchor, so contact the harbormaster for a mooring. The harbor tends to be extremely crowded, often with boats rafted together on moorings. The harborfront to port is a continuous strip of bustling bars and restaurants. Don’t come to Oak Bluffs if you want to get away from it all! But, do come if you want to eat out, shop, and have a good time. Almost everything you might need is a short walk from the harbor including groceries, shops, liquor, and a good hardware store.
